  9. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Friends in Christ: The catechism teaches us that because we have been baptised, we should keep on drowning the old nature we were born with; everything selfish and sinful in us has to die.

  10. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION This happens when day after day we are sorry for the wrong things we have done and ask God to forgive us. And the new nature God has given us in baptism should come to life day after day. We should live as new people, who do what is right and good and live with God forever.

  11. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Therefore, let us draw near to God our Father with a true heart to confess our sins, and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

  12. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We confess that we are born in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have failed to do.

  13. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. We deserve your eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

  14. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: Forgive us, renew us, and lead us,so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

  15. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: I ask each of you in the presence of God who searches the heart: Do you confess that you have sinned, and do you repent of your sins? C: I do.

  16. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you believe that Jesus Christ has redeemed you from all your sins, and do you desire forgiveness in his name? C: I do.

  17. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to live as in God's presence, and to strive daily to lead a holy life, even as Christ has made you holy? C: I do.

  18. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: As a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to all of you. On behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his command, I forgive the sins of all of you who repent and believe, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you. C: Amen.
