Mission and Vision Our MISSION is to support community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders.” Our VISION is a world in which the communities we serve have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs, and that our members have enriched global perspectives through the innovative professional & educational opportunities that the EWB-USA program provides.

  3. Milestones Since its incorporation in 2002, EWB-USA has grown from approximately eight engineering students and a civil engineering professor to an organization of over 12,000 students, faculty and professionals. EWB has built everything from aqueducts in Mali to solar panels in Rwanda, and the group is changing the way engineering is taught in schools by requesting its practitioners address the long-neglected needs of the billions of people who live without clean water or decent sanitation. “The world doesn’t need any more big dams. The world needs clean water, energy and basic services for the billions struggling just to stay alive at the end of each day” – Dr. Bernard Amadei, founder of EWB-USA

  4. Program Structures All EWB-USA programs are intended include MULTI-DISPLINARY & STUDENT LED projects. All WSU students, regardless of major or year, are welcomed to work on our projects and their various avenues of work. Due to nature of international projects and to comply to our mission and vision, EWB-USA maintains rigid program/project structure. Assessment + Implementation + Monitoring over course of 5 years or more.

  5. Choestancia Program • Choestancia community, Totonicapán, Guatemala • Coordinates: N 15.04836, W 91.49720 • Community is 36.7 km or a 30 minute drive from nearest big city (Quetzaltenango) • In the Department of Totonicapán, one of the poorest and rural departments in country

  6. Choestancia Program (2) • The Official Rural Coeducational School, Choestancia area, Pitzal village, was founded in 1979. It serves as a preschool and elementary school for the community. • More students are enrolling into this school each year, so there is a need to expand. Yet due to insufficient funding and a lack of support from the government, expansion needs to be done through EWB

Choestancia Program (3) • Community Request: Expand the school building by adding a second floor (4+ rooms and related facilities) • Chapter Objectives • Establishing relationships with community • Surveying and interviewing key members • Performing site assessment & building evaluation • Determining project feasibility • Teaching community & our chapter about alternative construction methods • & much, much, MUCH more.

  8. Professional Mentors Professional mentors are essential for all EWB projects, for they provide us with the expertise to guide us through the engineering process. Acts as a source of knowledge, technical advisor & teacher Current mentors include: Wesley Britson, Clay Cline, Michael Kelso, and Daryle Hager of P.E.C

Benefits to being a member • Accomplish Engineering 2020 requirements •  Complete two of the following: Leadership, Service Learning, Undergraduate Research • Details will be released soon. • Participate in unique events • Go to EWB-USA workshops, international conferences, volunteer for related causes and events. • NOVEMBER 2– 4 : EWB-USA Midwest Regional Conference @ St. Louis • $60 per person

Benefits to being a member(2) • Learn how real engineering projects work • Get ahead of your classmates as you participate in low tech, high impact projects with a professional mentor and your team mates. • Examples: • Education Committee – In need of individuals with education experience to provide lessons about EWB-WSU projects, create surveys and interview questions, outreach programs, etc. • Sustainability Team – Researching sustainable & environmental aspects of current project, exploring appropriate technologies • Membership requirements • Must maintain active participation in volunteering events or meetings. • Create a username at www.ewb-usa.org

  11. Conclusion EWB-WSU first international program Assessment trip is planned to be during winter break We’re forming several teams and ways for members to get involved. We’re traveling to the Midwest Regional Conference in November Learn & promote our cause and vision Other announcements!
