  1. CHEN, CHUN-HAODESIGN ACADEMY EINDHOVEN IM Master1st. year EYE CATCH

  2. INTRODUCTION The first point of view I was concerned with is the condition of the construction site that is in front of the train station in coming September.I can image that it will be the worst condition since station construction was started. The construction fences will block the main pavement where people go through everyday, and the view of the west site of the train station. Therefore Prorail/NS have built a temporary sidewalk beside the main pavement. They also built a tier of retail stores which moved from the main tunnel of the train station. That tier of retail stores also blocks the view through the HAVEN canal and to the building opposite of the train station. In other words, no city view will be presented to the passenger during the coming period of construction. Thus, is it possible to represent a view of the city? The construction site will block all of city view! And is it possible to represent a view of construction site? Is it possible that they can exist interdependently? For those questions, I would like to solve this problem and it would be the main point which I want to deal with.

  3. Passenger can not see any city view in period of construction.

  4. I would like to represent a city view of the Amsterdam, and the construction site in front of the Amsterdam train station.

  5. OBSERVATIONHuman behaviorEYE CATCH Passengers don’t pay any attention to see the circumstances that are surrounding them.It is pity for a developing city as Amsterdam. There is no attractive object to catch their eyesight. People more or less are content to ignore the construction site. I think surely that is not a good sign for the situation of the train station in the coming September. Therefore, it needs to create some object of attraction, or an attractive object in front of the station. When people go out of the gate or pass through the station, they will see something that interests them.

  6. ENTRANCE VIEWNo any person see any specific direction.

  7. TAKING A PHOTOSometimes people take a photos, but what thing is interested them?

  8. OBSERVATIONATTRACTIVE OBJECT The mirror is important for human’s life. Everyone uses one to check their face, dressing, attitude in front of the mirror before they go to work, school or shopping. Some people feel more confident when they stand in front of mirror. Some people make a rehearsal before they have a important meeting, presentation or performance. The mirror is part of our life. And I think people are fascinated with mirrors. Some people just like to see themselves from mirror’s reflection. It is an attractive motive what I can choose it to be my design.

  9. Mirror is in anywhere in our life time. The artist also like to draw a beauty of mirror.

  10. OBSERVATIONHuman behaviorSTATIC GROUPS As my observation, it is a busy-traffic place for the passenger in between the retail store and train station. Everything is moving except the building and furniture. For some seasons, when people are eating, waiting, looking at an information boards, taking a rest or a photo, they don’t move. They are a static group in the moving current of passersby. It is kind of a relationship between island and water. No matter what kind of passengers, and what is their purpose? They hurriedly go through the main pavement in front of retail store. I believe that it is nice to create a peaceful place where people can stay while they feel hungry, bored, confused or tired. I hope they could experience a peaceful moment when people stop to rest.

  15. I would like to create a waiting spot where passenger can stop to rest, and gather them to be a group.

  16. DESIGNIdea of waiting spot

  17. DESIGNIdea of reflection from mirror ball

  18. The reflection from mirror ball gather the city view of the Amsterdam, construction site of the Amsterdam train station, passenger and a viewer.Four elements join together in one of object.
