At age six, Winfrey moved to live with her mother. • Winfrey was molested by her cousin, her uncle, and a family friend, starting when she was nine years old. she spent her first six years living with her grandmother Hattie Mae Lee. • When she was 14, she became pregnant but her son died in infancy. Thenher mother sent her to live with her father.

At age 17, Winfrey won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant. • Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19 • In 1972, Oprah became the first black to anchor at Nashville's WTVF-TV. • In 1976 she being co-anchor at WJZ-TV then after two years, she was hired to host the station's chat show, “People Are Talking.”
