  2. The CogAT measures student ability in three areas: • Verbal • Quantitative • Non-Verbal

  3. Verbal: These abilities are important when developing reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills Examples of types of questions: Verbal Classification, Sentence Completion, Verbal analogies

  4. Quantitative This set of skills is significant to problem solving in general, not just in mathematics Examples of types of questions: Quantitative relations, number series, equation building

  5. Nonverbal • Designed to appraise general cognitive skills • Examples of types of questions: Figure classification, figure analogies, figure analysis

  6. Scores are reported in 3 ways: • Standard Age Score(SAS): National Mean of 100 • Percentile Rank(PR) • Stanine Scales:1-9
