Why Are We Here? • The Elementary and Secondary School Act, Title 1 Part A, requires that each Title 1 school hold an annual meeting for the parents and families whose children receive Title 1 services: • Informing you of the school’s participation in Title 1, Part A • Explaining the requirements of Title 1, Part A • Explaining your rights and opportunities as parents and families to be involved in your child’s learning and achievement. We are meeting tonight as a district because we are a complete Title 1 district. Meaning that each of our schools receive Title 1 funding.

  3. What does it mean to be a Title 1 school? • Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for… • Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards. • Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies • Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities • Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers • Being a Title I school also means parental involvement and parents’ rights.

  4. How do our school’s participate in the Title 1 Program? • Supporting classroom instruction through support personnel (Instructional Coaches) and resources • Providing support and information to our families and community members at large • Involving ourselves with local community events, functions, and family services • Training both teachers and parents in order for students to maximize their academic potential • Collaborating with the District and Schools’ administration during planning for budgets, purchases, instruction, and facilities • Advocating for parents by communicating and sharing information, opportunities for leadership, and training for the purpose of instructional support at home

  5. How Does Our District spend Title 1 Money? Each School has an Instructional Coach that assists the teachers with Professional Learning based on needs shown by student data. JCPS and WPES each have support staff (paraprofessionals) that are paid from Title 1 funding. Reading intervention resources for both WPES and JCHS Math professional learning for math teachers District Family Engagement Coordinator Supplies for parent resource rooms

How is Title 1 FamilyEngagementmoney spent? • Family Engagement funds can be used on things such as: • Parent resources/ parent resource center • Parent workshops • Guest speakers • Child care for after school events, such as meetings and workshops Title 1 requires the use of 1% of the districts funding to go towards Family Engagement.

  7. What opportunities does the district provide for family engagement? Parent meetings, conferences, school events and workshops Communication through email, Remind, Class Dojo, newsletters, website Sharing educational resources such as websites and strategies to reinforce skills at home SGT and classroom/school-wide volunteering Title 1 meetings, surveys Collaborating with the community-business partnerships

What is required by law for family engagement? • As outlined in the Parent and Family Engagement Policy (on the county and each schools website): • convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s Title 1 program • offer a flexible number of parent meetings (minimum of 4) • involve parents in an organized, ongoing way • provide parents with the information they need to help their child/children succeed in school

  10. What are Our Goals? • Jasper County Charter System • JCCS will have 20% or fewer students with 10 or more total absences during the 2019-2020 school year.   11. Student’s in JCCS will undergo testing with: Georgia Milestones Assessment System MAPS assessment Pre/Post Unit Assessments-70% considered proficient. Determines mastery of the unit standards. Continuous formative and summative assessments to drive instruction and differentiate teaching strategies.

  12. What curriculum do our school’s use? Georgia Standards of Excellence The performance standards provide clear expectations for instruction, assessment, and student work. The performance standards isolate and identify the skills needed to use the knowledge and skills to problem-solve, reason, communicate, and make connections with other information. They also tell the teacher how to assess the extent to which the student knows the material or can manipulate and apply the information.

  14. District Family Engagement Policy • The district Family Engagement Policy can be found on the districts web page under Federal Programs and the Title 1A tab.

  15. What is a school parent compact? A written, binding document that parents, students, and teachers sign Explains how each stakeholder is involved with improving student achievement Must be signed and returned to school Parents may keep the compact, just return the signature sheet Compacts go home with the start of school packets at the beginning of the year. Must have a signature from every student and parent within our school

  17. Questions?? Comments!! Please take a few minutes to stop by your child’s Schools table. Members from the respective Schools SGT are there to hand out free books for your children. They are also there to answer any questions you might have about the role of the SGT’s. We also have computers available in room *** to sign parents up for access to Infinite Campus. This is the parent portal that you can sign in to see your child’s grades and attendance. This is a great way to be engaged in your child’s education. Thank You For Coming This Evening!
