  1. The Winds of Change A hurricane force of technology impacting our students, our teachers, our district, and our tomorrow.

Irving ISD Wins $800,000 Technology Grant Irving ISD is the only district in Texas to be awarded a full "Vertical Team" portion of a TEA technology grant called the Texas Technology Immersion Pilot Program. Irving High School, de Zavala Middle School, and Lively Elementary School will share $800,000 over a two-year period to implement the program.

  3. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE of the TIP GRANT? • The purpose of the grant is to explore the impact of technology immersion on student achievement by providing each student with a wireless mobile computing device, and integrating software, online resources, and other appropriate learning technologies.

  4. Being part of the TIP Grant resulted in each K-3 student receiving an AlphaSmart and each 4-5 grade student receiving a laptop in November 2004. The students were very excited about receiving a laptop.  As one student said when he received his laptop, "This is one of the best days of my school life!"

  8. WHAT CAN WE DO??

  9. Expectations for Grade levels – -Collegially discuss ways to integrate Hurricane Katrina in instruction. -Decide as a grade level team what student projects will be. -Integrate technology in your projects.

  10. Outcome of the Katrina Project are • Walking Museum/exhibits in hallways to display information students have gained from this topic. • Integrate technology in your projects

  11. THE KATRINA PROJECT WILL… • Meet the requirements for our TIP Vertical Team project • Offers students an opportunity to help those in need as a result of Katrina. • Tech-Fusion Projects • Media Fair Projects

  12. LIVELY’S KATRINA PROJECT FOOD CAN DRIVE

  13. FOOD CAN DRIVE The can drive will benefit IRVING CARES a local non-profit organization that supplies food for the Katrina evacuees that are living in Irving.

  14. Timeline: October 12-20-Grade level discussion on age-appropriate projects. October 21- Grade level leaders will send Judy grade level’s decision for grade level student projects. October 24-November 16- Students will work on content area integrated projects. Early November - Can Food Drive begins. November 16-Can Food Drive ends. November 17-18 (up until 10:30 on the 18th) Walking Museum Display of projects. Classes will tour displays and projects in the hallways.
