IMPORTANT INFORMATION • 6 units for each grade • Titles of units are the same across grade levels • Each unit is divided into 5 lessons • Each lesson equals one week of instruction • Lessons (weeks) 1 through 4 introduce new concepts and review previously learned material (spiral) • Lesson (week) 5 is always a Review week • Lesson (week) 6 is Writer’s Workshop OR Assessment Week for Units 2 and 4 • An additional week has been built into the pacing calendar after each assessment for re-teaching.

Assessment Pieces • Assessment Handbook – Grade Specific • End of Unit Tests • Are leveled by three proficiency levels • Rubrics and scoring keys • English Language Development Inventory • Observation Checklists • Additional Assessment Resources • Placement Tests K-2 & 3-5 Handbooks • Will be used at the end of the year for next year’s placement. • Rubrics for scoring are in these handbooks.

Assessment Pieces (cont’d) • Required Assessments for BCSD • BCSD will be administering the End of Unit Tests for Units 2 and 4 only for this school year! • End of Unit tests for Units 2 and 4 will be printed by ELL Services and delivered to you! • Rubrics are included in the Assessment Handbooks. • Additional rubrics available on the ELL website • Placement Tests will be given at the end of the year to aid in placement for the following year.

For online resources and access to the eGlossary • Website www.harcourtschool.com • Choose “The Learning Site.” • Choose “ELL/ESL.” • Click on any MIE book. • For the Password type in the last name of any author of the MIE program. • Type your school’s name in the next box. • Select your state. • Choose “Both” for the question, “Where will you be using this web site?” • Make sure “Save this password” is checked. • Click “Explore!” • Click on the book for your grade level. • If you want to access “Resources for Teachers,” you will need to register and choose a private username and password.
