  1. DG TREN – WP500 CONCAWE LD Vehicle Testing

  2. CONCAWE LD Programme • Test Facility • Tests Performed by Shell Global Solutions in the UK • Test Vehicles • Two diesel vehicles (Euro 3):VW Golf 1.9 TDIPeugeot 607 2.2 HDI with DPF • Two Gasoline vehicles (Euro 3):Renault Megane 2.0 IDE (stoichiometric DI)Citroen C5 2.0 HPI (Lean-burn DI) • Test Fuels • Diesel: D2 (280 mg/kg S), D3 (38 mg/kg S), D4 (8 mg/kg S), D5 (Swedish Class 1) and D6 (340 mg/kg S – Euro 3) • Gasoline: G1 (143 mg/kg S), G2 (45 mg/kg S) and G3 (6 mg/kg S) Each fuel to be tested three times (3 blocks) with randomised test order.

  3. CONCAWE LD Programme • Daily Test Schedule • Cold NEDC (1180 s) • Hot NEDC (1180 s) • Artemis Urban (993 s) • Artemis Road (1082 s) • Artemis Motorway 130 km/h (1068 s) • 120 km/h Road-Load (600 s) • 50 km/h High-Load (600 s) • 50 km/h Road-Load (600 s) • 50 km/h Road-Load with High Dilution [W1] (600 s) • Fuel Change • Pre-condition Monday – Data processing and Pre-condition Tuesday to Friday – Full Test Days

  4. CONCAWE LD Programme • Sampling System and Instrumentation • Full Particulates system: • Dekati Porous-Tube dilutor with ageing chamber. • Dekati Ejector dilutors (on Wet and Dry branches) • Dekati Thermodesorber • TSI SMPS (3071A with 3022A CPC) – steady state only • TSI CPC (3022A) • Dekati ELPI • Dekati ASMO • Dekati DGI • CO2 analysers (three) for DR calculation • Horiba 9000 Emissions System

  5. Measurement Equipment CPC and ASMO SMPS andELPI CO2 Analysers Mass Flow Controller Mass FlowControllerand DGI Primary Dilutor Thermodesorber CO2 Calibration Gases

  6. CONCAWE LD Programme - Status • VW Golf 1.9 TDI • Triplicate Tests on 5 fuels completed • Additional tests complete- Thermodesorber tests with ELPI and SMPS- ELPI sampling from CVS • Peugeot 607 2.2 HDI with DPF • Triplicate Tests on 5 fuels completed in January 2003 • Tests on two Gasoline vehicles to follow after transfer of equipment to Gasoline emissions dynamometer. • 9 test days (3 fuels) per vehicle

  7. CONCAWE LD Programme - Results • Data summarised in to single sheet per vehicle: • 144 columns of data covering: • Test number, date, fuel etc. • Cycle/Phase time, distance, flow • Regulated emissions • DGI g/km (by stage and total) • ASMO cm2/km • ELPI #/km (by stage and total), mean particle size • SMPS #/km in 104 bins, <50nm, >50nm and mean particle size. • 3 rows for NEDC (cold and hot) • ECE, EUDC, Total Cycle • 1 row for each Artemis cycle and each steady-state test • Gives a total of 13 rows per test day

  8. Summary Results Sheet - Sample Columns: - 144 Columns to define tests and store summary results Rows: - One row per Test or Phase. - 13 Rows per Test day. Dropdown Boxes: - To select Column (Result) for plot. - To select Row (Test) for plot.

  9. CONCAWE LD Programme - Results • Mass Emissions • PM, NOx, CO and HC • by Fuel Number • for NEDC and Artemis Motorway • DGI PM • Particle Emissions • CPC, ELPI, ASMO • by Fuel Number • for NEDC, Artemis Motorway, 120 km/h and 50 km/h High Load • SMPS • Distributions @ 4 steady-state conditions • Mean particle size (NOT separated for Nucleation/Accumulation Modes) • Particle numbers <50 and >50 nm
