  2. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS • THE NAMES: Elder, Bishop, Pastor (Acts 20:17, 28). a. Men of age, experience. b. Who know how to rule. c. Who are active in feeding, seeking, etc. • DESIRE: a. Desires a good work (1 Tim. 3:1; Rev. 22:17).

  3. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS 3. REPUTATION: a. Without reproach (1 Tim. 3:2). b. Blameless ( Titus 1:6). c. A good testimony (1 Tim. 3:7). Consider Gal. 2:11ff & 1 Pet. 5:1ff All Christians Should Have A Good Reputation! (1 Tim. 6:14; Phil. 2:15)

  4. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS 4. DOMESTIC QUALIFICATIONS: a. The husband of one wife (1 Tim. 3:2, Titus 1:6). b. Rules well his own house (1 Tim. 3:4). c. Children in subjection with gravity (1 Tim. 3:5). d. Believing children, not accused of riot or unruly (Titus 1:6). e. Must have a godly wife (1 Tim. 3:11).

  5. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS 5. MATURITY IN THE FAITH: a. Apt to teach (1 Tim. 3:2). b. Holding to the faithful word (Titus 1:9). c. Able to exhort & convict (Titus 1:9). d. Not a novice (1 Tim. 3:6). All Christians Should Become Mature! (2 Tim. 2:2, 24-26; Heb. 5:12)

  6. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS 6. PERSONAL CHARACTER: a. Sober-minded (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8). b. Hospitable (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8). c. Temperate & Self-controlled (1 Tim. 3:2 , Titus 1:8). d. Orderly (1 Tim. 3:2). All Christians Should Be These! (Titus 2:12; Rom. 12:13;2 Pet. 1:6; 2 Thess. 3:6)

  7. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS 6. PERSONAL CHARACTER: e. No brawler, striker, nor greedy (1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:7). f. Not contentious (1 Tim. 3:3). g. Not self-willed, soon angry (Titus 1:7). All Christians Should LACK These! (1 Pet. 4:3; 2 Cor. 10:4; Rom. 12:19; 1 Tim. 6:9-10; Titus 3:2; 2 Pet. 2:10; Col. 3:8)

  8. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS 6. PERSONAL CHARACTER: h. Patient or Gentle (1 Tim. 3:3). i. A lover of good (Titus 1:8). j. Just (Titus 1:8). k. Holy (Titus 1:8). All Christians Should Have These! (Titus 3:2; 2 Tim. 3:1-8; 1 John 3:7-8; Titus 2:12)

  9. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS CONCLUSION: • Elders must meet all these qualifications: Name (Job description), Desire, Reputation, Domestic Qualifications, Personal, Character. • This Should Describe The TYPICAL Christian! DOES IT DESCRIBE YOU?
