  4. Where in the World? • The Ancient Greeks used water wheels to grind wheat into flower. • The street lamps in the city of Niagara Falls were powered by the waterfall in 1881.

  5. Where in the World? • China has one of the world’s largest hydro plants at the Three Gorges on the Yangste River. • Grand Coulee Dam in the United States.

  8. Why is it good? • Renewable resource. • Doesn’t release pollutants into the air. • Reduce the vulnerability to floods and droughts.

  10. Why is it bad? • Dams disrupt and destroy surrounding sites. • Building and the upkeep of dams are expensive. • Wildlife could be harmed.

  12. Should we use it? • Shouldn’t use it. • Only have a lake. • Not a reliable source. • Still water not useful.
