British Periodicals Collections I and II British Periodicals Collections I and II www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/british_periodicals • A digital archive of nearly 500 periodicals covering the arts, the built environment, humanities and social sciences available free in perpetuity to colleges, universities and research councils in the UK • JISC Collections’ purchase of the archive on behalf of these institutions means they can enjoy free access via ProQuest’s web platform to more than 250 years of content • A wide array of different types of periodical are represented in the Collections ‘A Peep into the Cave of Jacobinism’

NewsFilm Online NewsFilm Online www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/nfo • Over 3,000 hours of historic news footage from ITN's archive division, ITN Source, is now available free of charge to colleges in the UK • Featuring ITN and Reuters content, NewsFilm Online forms part of a £22 million digitisation programme funded by the JISC to promote the innovative use of ICT in education and research • Users at licensed institutions can download and edit clips and newsreels to create their own content for projects, and for use in virtual learning environments - a first for this type of material

The ScientificWorldJOURNAL The ScientificWorldJOURNAL www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/tswj • The highly innovative journal is now available free of charge to all colleges and universities in the UK as part of the Knowledge Exchange initiative, following central funding from JISC Collections • An online scientific journal, TSWJ is organised as a matrix of overlapping domains, each acting as a journal in its own right with an editorial board, a table of contents and news • TSWJ publishes in the multidisciplinary nature of science, which includes biomedicine, chemistry, environmental studies, health sciences, life sciences, medicine, and some social sciences

  10. Renewals: Scran Scran www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/scran • A new 3-year renewal agreement for Scran started on 1st November 2008. • Under the new agreement, Scran will invoice institutions direct • Scran is an extensive educational image archive • A range of useful tools are included

Hairdressing Training www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/hairdressing Hairdressing Training is an online learning package designed to support teaching of hairdressing and barbering across various awards including NVQ, SVQ, Diplomas and Apprenticeships In August 2007, the Learning and Skills Council provided funding to enable JISC Collections to make Hairdressing Training freely available to all UK Further Education institutions through Mimas Hairdressing Training

Hairdressing Training www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/hairdressing Now using a system developed by Mimas, trainee hairdressers can learn barbering and hairdressing using their mobile phones, as well as a range of other handheld devices Hairdressing for Mobiles won the Tertiary, FE, HE and Adult Innovation award at the Handheld Learning 2008 Conference The Hairdressing Training web site has been updated with a new interface, updated haircutting and styling techniques Hairdressing Training
