Keaholoa Outreach Phase II `ikeInspiring Knowledge Expansion The aim of this endeavor is to provide an opportunity for High school students to explore the STEM fields under the mentorship of Keaholoa STEM interns, faculty mentors and Hawaiian cultural advisors. Prospective high school students will be engaged in a range of activities and events directed at developing both academic and cultural knowledge of the student.

Keaholoa Outreach Phase II `ikeInspiring Knowledge Expansion Conceptual Model: Building a House of Knowledge • Foundation Looking and knowing STEM through a Hawaiian lens- (Valuing STEM through Hawaiian senses) • Pillars Supportive relationship developed in Keaholoa interns faculty mentors, cultural advisors • Framework A series of mini experiments research experience, and exposure to technology • Exterior Learning to demonstrate skill and understanding (ma ka hana ka `ike)

  5. `ikeInspiring Knowledge Expansion Keaholoa Outreach Phase II Architecture: Engaging Experience Spring- • 3 – 6 cultural enrichment activities • 3 – 6 technology events using tech equipment in science • 3 – 6 experiences with Keaholoa interns in ongoing research • Participate in Ho`ike

  6. Keaholoa Outreach Phase II `ikeInspiring Knowledge Expansion Architecture: Engaging Experience Summer • Summer intensive tutorial in Mathematics and Chemistry • Special program for new jr. interns Kalo Science 3 college credits

  7. Kuleana • Participate and kokua with Nā pua No`eau Super Saturday’s and other events. • Attendance is mandatory for benefits • Behavior is expected to be respectful and courteous • Best Effort is expected to be made in all tasks and activities • At least one activity that directly assists kūpuna.

  8. Incentive and Benefit • `ike students will receive $150.00 stipend at mid term and the end of each semester • `ike student tuition will be waived for summer intensive and a $250.00 stipend will be provided. • `ike students transitioning to UH Hilo will be eligible to become a Keaholoa intern • `ike students earn 3 summer college credits in Kalo Science course.
