  8. Revised Curriculum • Covers primary as well as post-primary • Introduces new Foundation Stage at P1 and P2 • Emphasises the development of “skills” throughout

  9. Revised assessment and reporting arrangements • Assessment every school year, not just at the end of Key stages • Use of computer-based tasks to inform teacher judgements • New Pupil Profile, providing consistent format for annual reports to parents

  10. Entitlement Framework • Guaranteeing access to a wider range of courses for all pupils from age 15 onwards • One-third of courses to be applied/vocational • To be delivered by collaboration

  11. 14-19 - Provision • Diverse provision, shared between DE and DEL • Need for review, taking account of present reforms in schools and FE sectors • Review of Jobskills • Review of Information, Advice and Guidance provision (careers education) • New approach to Business/industry links following demise of NIBEP

  12. 14-19 - Qualifications • Specialised diplomas in England – what about NI? • Keeping in step with changes to GCSEs and A-levels at national level • Development of “functional skills” in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT – phasing out key/essential skills in due course

  13. Specialist Schools • Provide full curriculum but with emphasis on chosen specialism • Link to business and community • Share expertise with neighbouring schools

  14. New Admissions arrangements • Transfer tests end after 2008 • Need for agreement on way ahead
