  1. Why were you born? Born to be WILD . .

  2. What does God say? • Born for His glory! • Isa 43:7 “Created for my glory.” • Rev 4:11 “Worthy art thou to receive glory and honor, for you created all things and because of your will they esist and were created.”

  3. What does Jesus say? • John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

  4. What is the work God has called us to do? • Rom 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son . . . • Glorify Him by serving others . . by becoming “Christ incarnate” in the body (family) of God.

  5. BORN TO BELONG Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto sincere love of the brethren , love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again . . . I Peter 1:22-23

  6. Born to Belong . . . • Members of a family • Sheep in a flock • Branches of a vine • Soldiers in an army • Citizens in the kingdom • Children of God!

  7. He created us for community • 1 Cor 12:12-13 • 12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.

  8. He created us for community • Col 1:18 He is also head of the body, the church. • We are to called to be the living incarnation of Jesus to the world!

  9. Relationship with the Lord is Personal but not Private • 58 “One Another Passages.” • Deep and close interrelationships

  10. What does Membership Require? • Attendance • Conformity to the rules/by laws • Pay your dues

  11. Is this all that is required of “faithful membership” in the body? • NO! • You can be a member of a club and have no interrelationships with the other members! • Not so in a body. I Cor 12:12-16

  12. BODY= Interdependence not independence • No Christian can function effectively by themselves! • Sheep without a flock, or a child without a family is unnatural, and dangerous!

  13. BODY= Interdependence not independence • Eph 2:18-1919 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household

  14. Fellowship is a beautiful word • Encapsulates the relationship we are to have: • Communion • Participation • Sharing • Partnership

  15. Dependent relationship is Challenging • Demands patience . . . • Different levels • Demands understanding … • Not clones!

  16. Born to belong to a fellowship • Not My-ship • Not Your-ship • But – Fellowship!

  17. Body= Equality not Superiority • Rom 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

  18. Equality vs. Superiority • Many job descriptions . . . • Key: ALL SERVANTS! • There are different roles but all are important. An equality.

  19. Equality • “When one member cries, the rest of the members taste the salt of their tears.” • 1 Cor 12:25-26 The members may have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

  20. Equality • The body is self-protecting. The stronger parts will protect the weaker ones. • Your body has no ambitious parts!

  21. Body = Harmony NOT Hostility • 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. 18 But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. 20 But now there are many members, but one body. 25 so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another

  22. Harmony not Hostility • God designed both Physical and Spiritual bodies to love harmony and hate discord. • The “incarnation of Christ” is marred when disharmony exists. • Eph 4:3 “We are to endeavor to preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.”

  23. Harmony versus Hostility • The dying request of a dying Savior: “Be one even as I and the father are one, so that the world will believe that you sent me.” • How answer that prayer? • Jn 13:34-35 New commandment: “Love as I have loved you.”

  24. How do most bodies die? • External events? • Internal, from within? • We can avoid this by being one body: • Dependence • Equality • Harmony

  25. Invitation • 1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. • You were born to belong to God and into a loving family!
