What are Interest Groups? • Groups of people with a common interest who try to influence government • Lobbyist- paid by the interest group to represent them
Types of Interest Groups • Business associations • Labor unions • Veterans organizations Examples of issue-oriented interest groups • NAACP • NOW
Lobbyist • Work to convince Congress to vote for or against a bill • Disclosure Act of 1995- tightened regulations for lobbyist
