  4. History and Geography • The Yellow River : The central Chinese provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan and Shandong are linked and dominated by the Yellow River (huánghé). The Yellow River or Huang He is the second-longest river in China (after the Yangtze River) and the sixth-longest in the world at 5,464 kilometers(3,398 miles) • The river is often likened to a dragon. The river sweeps across the northern plains where China's original inhabitants first learned to till and irrigate, to make porcelain and gunpowder, to build and bury imperial dynasties. • The Yangtze River : Rising in the Tanggula Mountains in west-central China, it flows southeast before turning northeast and then generally east across south-central and east-central China to the East China Sea near Shanghai. It is known as the Jinsha in its upper course. It is the world’s third longest river, 3,915 mi (6,300 km) long.

The Three Gorges Dam • China Yangtze Three Gorges Project (TGP), as one of the biggest hydropower-complex project in the world, ranks as the key project for improvement and development of Yangtze River. The dam is located in the areas of Xilingxia gorge, one of the three gorges of the river, which will control a drainage area of 1 million km2 , with an average annual runoff of 451 billion m3 . The open valley at the dam site, with hard and complete granite as the bedrock, has provided the favorable topographical and geological conditions for dam construction.

The Economy • The Yellow River is a big river and it has and important role is used on many ways.Like it is used for tourists,fishing,farms,like the paddy field and animals.The yellow river plays an important role in peoples life.Without the Yellow River than no one will have food or even water. • The Xiaoxi dam is the major dam in China.The dam will shortchange German consumers, Chinese villagers and the climate itself. • The Yangtze River River has the same used as the Yellow River. It is used for tourists,fishing,and farm’ things.People in China depend on this River a lots.

  7. Environmental There are pollutions in the Yellow River.It is caused by the spilling out of a local sewer had caused the river to turn “red and smelly”. The Dolphins in the Yangtze River are one of the most amazing dolphins are now extinct. More than 30% of fish species in Yellow River have gone extinct .There was 150 species of fish living in the Yellow River but one-third have disappeared because that people are over fishing and hydropower projects along the river. 66% of its water is pollution and undrinkable.

  8. Socio-Political • China classifies water as a quality in major river and lakes into six levels. • 40% if water isn’t leveled. The ranging levels are good to be used as a kind of source of : Drinking Water - Bathing Water . • 39.5% of the cities travel to have either bathing or drinking water. • Projects scatter along five rivers, two lakes, and in the resource areas of the Three Georges Dam on the Yangtze River.
