  2. 64 Councillors down from 72 • 43 Wards • Bardwell, Barnham, Coney Weston, Euston, Fakenham Magna, Honington Village, Sapiston and a small part of Rushford. • Total population approx. 180,000 • Seventh largest – electorate 117,390 • 91 Town/Parish Councils and Parish Meetings • Services remain the same – already shared • Offices remain the same – but there are new shared buildings (Hubs) at Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds (Western Way)

  3. Priorities Growth in West Suffolk’s economy for the benefit of all our residents and UK plc Resilient families and communities that are healthy and active Increased and improved provision of appropriate housing in West Suffolk in both our towns and rural areas

The new Council better allows us to • Deliver services vital for our communities and businesses while driving forward an ambitious vision of growth, jobs and economic prosperity for our unique area • Future-proof for the next decade and beyond - to ensure a firm financial base to meet the challenges faced by our communities such as improving health, the need for more homes and reduced national funding • Consolidate the savings and efficiencies we have made and make even more that can be reinvested to work with and benefit our communities. • To be the right size to deliver local and tailored solutions but also have a large and unified voice to champion the area nationally and attract investment In addition the move to a single council for West Suffolk has delivered savings and efficiencies totalling around £800,000 every year.

  9. Waste • Bin collection remains the same. We already shared the service across both areas • West Suffolk Operational Hub on budget and time – new and better facilities sharing with Suffolk County Council • Government reviewing ways to reduce waste across the UK – various ideas from money back on returns to recycling more. Will be a national issue

  10. Garden Waste • Aim is to reduce the amount of waste we need to collect and dispose of, so also promoting subsidised home composting. Many people do not have gardens but would have to pay through their Council Tax anyway • Collect from 30,000 households (up 10%) in WS which produces 12,000 tonnes of good quality soil improver a year for use in parks and fields • Charging introduced three years ago on basis that users cover costs(not subsidised by non users). Held at £40 until this year – now £43 and still the lowest in the county • No food waste means nothing that has been into the house. We want to reduce food waste too, which incidentally needs more costly heat treatment to render safe to use.

Civil Parking Enforcement • We are eager with councils across Suffolk to take this power • Its important to reduce bad parking to help emergency services, businesses and accessibility • Waiting for Government to make the order • We should hear this year BUT parliamentary time and resources are concentrated on Brexit • Once we know we will be telling everyone
