  3. Investing in Pedagogical Leadership Pedagogical leaders set the tone of professionalism. Through their leadership both within and outside the setting, they communicate …the importance of high quality early learning experiences for all children. They are advocates for early childhood …[and they] shape and frame the professionalism of an early childhood setting. Grounded in their commitment to ethical practice, pedagogical leaders…encourage and promote the principles [of the EYLF] with others and promote ongoing professional learning within the early childhood setting. They mentor, encourage and offer advice to colleagues to promote organisational growth and contribute to developing early childhood settings as learning communities for all involved. An organisational commitment to quality The establishment of Lady Gowrie Child Centres in 1939-40 as the first “model preschools” heralded an innovative approach to early care and education in Australia. The pioneering women involved demonstrated vision and a commitment to quality service delivery.   5. Establishing the Pedagogical Reference Group Source research and practice evidence about contemporary early childhood pedagogy. Deliberate on the contemporary early childhood research, policy and practice experiences. Communicate the work of the group (findings, opportunities, solutions, challenges and strategies) to all parts of the organisation. Support educators and other Gowrie Staff to understand high quality contemporary early childhood pedagogy as it relates to their work. Demonstrate the daily implementation of high quality contemporary early childhood pedagogy to all staff. Evaluate the pedagogical work of Gowrie Victoria as well as the effectiveness of the support offered by the Pedagogical Reference Group

  6. Working to support quality – our achievements The Pedagogical Practice Guide is designed to assist educators as they develop programs and record children’s learnings. As well as practice examples the guide explains some of the thinking behind the Gowrie approach and offers suggestions about how learning documentation might be progressed.

Working to support quality – our achievements This project emerged from numerous conversations explaining to parents, educators and the community, how young children learn:  "My son said he was in the sand all day yesterday – what’s that got to do with learning?”  Educators were invited to create Making Children's Learning Visible Posters highlighting particular areas of learning.

  8. A vision for the future Strong, skilled and well supported educators who work together in an reflective environment to make a difference in the lives of young children!
