Purpose of Project • In collaboration with the Pelee Island Municipal Office, to begin the work of creating a sustainable community economic development strategy. • This resource document is a first step towards this strategy. • It provides: • Independent findings based on a number of different research tools • A number of conclusions and recommendations to inform the development of the strategic plan

Framework for Project COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT... “action by people locally to create economic opportunities and better social conditions, particularly for those who are most disadvantaged. CED is an approach that recognizes that economic, environmental and social challenges are interdependent, complex and ever-changing. To be effective, solutions must be rooted in local knowledge and led by community members. CED promotes holistic approaches, addressing individual, community and regional levels, recognizing that these levels are interconnected” (Canadian CED Network)

Primary Conclusions • Pelee Island has an abundance of cultural, social, and environmental resources, as well as economic opportunities that remain largely untapped • Community members have many creative ideas for capitalizing on these assets • A strategic plan is needed to turn ideas into action
