  4. Child Development Permit Matrix

  5. Permit renewal(except Associate Teacher) • Find a Professional Growth Advisor • Set goals with PGA • Choose activities from at least 2 categories • Complete and document 105 hours in 5 years • Renew permit

  6. Professional Growth Activities(most common) 1. Successfully Complete One or More College or University Classes 2. Attend Conferences, Workshops, Institutes, Academies, Symposia, Teacher Center Programs, or Staff Development Program 11. Receive Instruction in CPR

Perform Service in a Leadership Role in which the Permit Holder Contributes to the Improvement of the Center or Group of Centers Above and Beyond the Requirements of His/or Her Job 4. Provide Service in a Leadership Role in a Professional Organization 5. Serve as a Professional Growth Advisor for Child Development Permit Holders 6. Conduct Educational Research and Innovation 7. Participate in Systematic Programs of Observation and Analysis of Teaching Curriculum, Classroom Management Techniques, Play or Circle Activities of a Peer-Alike Job 8. Participate in a Program of Independent Study 9. Improvement of Basic Skills 10. Participate in Creative Endeavors

  8. Associate Teacher Permit • 12 ECE/CD units • child/human growth & development • child/family/community or child and family relations • programs/curriculum • 50 days of 3+ hours experience in the last 2 years Teacher Permit • Associate Teacher units • Plus 12 additional ECE units • 16 General Ed units (not ECE) • Math/science • English • Humanities • Social Science • 175 days of 3+ hours experience in the last 4 years

  9. Associate Teacher Permit • Must complete 15 units toward the Teacher Permit in 5 years to renew (one time only) • Must apply for the Teacher Permit within 10 years • Teachers who are unable to complete the units within the time frame can apply for Assistant Teacher Permit while completing course work

  10. Up Grading • Complete the requirements for the next level of permit • Upgrade rather than renew • Fee is 1/2 if upgrade happens within 3 years of receipt of permit • No Professional Growth Advisor needed

  11. Professional Growth Advisors • 1. A Child Development Permit at the Teacher level or above plus three years experience teaching or serving as a director in an early childhood education setting. • 2. An Early Childhood Education Specialist Credential • 3. A Standard Early Childhood Teaching Credential • 4. A Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis in early childhood education • 5. An elementary teaching credential and one of the following: • At least 12 semester units of child development or early childhood education course work • At least 2 years experience in an early childhood education/child development setting

A secondary teaching credential with a major in home economics and one of the following: • At least 12 semester units of child development or early childhood education course work • At least 2 years experience in an early childhood education/child development setting • 7. Other options for advisor qualifications include the following: • a master’s degree or above in early childhood education or child development • five or more years experience as a director of a child development center
