  5. What Circumstances? The Union tried an all out attack that failed and alerted the Southern infantry. The Union fired the first shot.

  6. Causualties Union Confederacy • 2,331 soldiers • 15,067 soldiers

  7. Interesting Facts • Nathan Bradford Forrest escaped with supplies and 500 men.

  8. Days-Feb. 11-14 • U.S Grant launched two unsuccessful probingattack. • Flag man Foote was wounded during a gunboat attack on the water batteries, but there was a bloody repulse.

  9. Days-Feb. 15-16 • The Confederates attempted to break out and escape to Nashville, Tennessee.

  10. The Union won the battle… Thanks to all the hard work by the Union leaders and soldiers.
