Table S3 Coefficients for categorical variables (bottom type and alga type) in a generalized additive model (GAM) that predicts abundance rank of Bolteniaovifera based on these categorical variables and depth (a continuous variable), as shown in Fig. 5. Coefficients show relative importance of each categorical factor in predicting tunicate abundance on a natural logarithmic scale, with the most negative coefficients indicating the least important factors. Coefficients for bottom type were calculated relative to “Bedrock”; coefficients for algal type were calculated relative to “Agarum Bed” (these two coefficients were set to zero). The SE of all coefficients is adjusted for autocorrelation
