3. Examples • Anecdote: Walking along the beach I come across row after row of dead fish. Their normally florescent scales are covered in black oil. • Quote: "This is probably the biggest environmental disaster we have ever faced in this country. It is certainly the biggest oil spill and we are responding with the biggest environmental response.“ – Carol Browner

4. Examples (cont) • Fascinating Fact: The National Wildlife Federation reports that already more than 150 threatened or endangered sea turtles are dead. And 316 sea birds, mostly brown pelicans and northern gannets, have been found dead along the Gulf Coast as a result of the spreading oil

5. Examples (cont.) • Appeal to curiosity: Gambling websites are now placing odds on what species will be first to become extinct as a result of the oil belching from BP’s ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico.

6. Humor • Humor: Not appropriate for my topic but, here is an example of a different one. • Topic: Motivating yourself to write. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I think of something that's funny, then I go get a pen and I write it down. Or if the pen's too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of ain't funny
