After World War II ended on May 8, 1945, Jewish survivors became known as “Displaced Persons,” seeking new lives in the aftermath of the Holocaust. The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) and later the International Refugee Organization (IRO) were pivotal in resettling approximately 1 million Jews from a pool of about 1.2 million displaced individuals. Many found refuge in France, Canada, Great Britain, Israel, and the United States, while countless children orphaned by the tragedy faced uncertain futures. This period marked a difficult journey toward recovery and renewal.
