Establishing the Euro-Med Horse Racing Federation: Milestones and Future Initiatives

The Euro-Med Horse Racing Federation (EMHF) was founded in 2010 during a pivotal meeting in Stockholm, followed by the inaugural General Meeting in Paris. The Executive Council, led by Chairman Brian Kavanagh from Horseracing Ireland, was established with nine members. In August 2011, EMHF organized a successful handicapping seminar in Baden-Baden, and further training for racecourse officials occurred in April 2012. Notably, statistics indicate almost 23,000 foals were born and 29,000 races run in 2011. A dedicated EMHF website is set to launch in 2013-2014.

TOOLS FOR INFORMATION AND SPREAD OF KNOWLEDGE • In August 2011 EMHF organised a seminar for members, a handicapping seminar hosted by the Direktorium in Baden Baden. 21 people participated. • Chief presentation made by Phil Smith, Head of Handicapping in Britain. • In April 2012 a two day training seminar for racecourse officials, hosted by BHA, was carried out. • Several questionnaires have been done • Statistics for the Euro Med region show that almost 23.000 foals were born in 2011 and close to 29.000 races were run • A web site for EMHF is going to be set up
