  2. The Tang Dynasty experienced a Golden Age in China in part because they used a fair system to get qualified people to work in their government. Everyone in the bureaucracy had to excel on Civil Service Exams. What were civil service exams based on? • Buddhism arrived and grew in China before the Tang Dynasty. However, the Tang Dynasty persecuted Buddhist. How did their treatment of Buddhist lead to the diffusion of Buddhism?

  3. 3. Which of the following two options is the best way to run a classroom? • Teachers should run their classes by rules and harshly punish rule-breakers? Or 2. Teachers should lead by being an example of morals, honesty, manners, and integrity?

  4. Preview: 4. Confucius believed that people in China during his lifetime were rude and dishonest. Here is one of the things he said about leadership: “Lead the people by rules and punishments and they will be deceitful (sneaky) and have no sense of shame. Lead them by means of a moral example…and they will have shame and higher standards.” .

  5. Confucius was an influential teacher in Chinese history who believed that the people needed to return to ethics or moral values. These ideas are known as Confucianism.

To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order; we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right. What would Confucius SAY: To leaders on how to properly lead a family or a group of people?

  12. What would Confucius SAY: Never contract friendship with a man who is not better than thyself. To someone looking to make friends?

  13. What would Confucius SAY: The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who never asks is a fool for life. I’m not sure what this means. Help!
