  1. The Y9 Curriculum • Students are now getting stuck into their new timetables; • GCSE level work • BTEC assignments • Every lesson counts and is crucial to our students making progress.

High Expectations • We want students to fulfil their potential! • This is the first year of their GCSE/BTEC exams –as such there will be module GCSE exams and coursework assessments taking place this year • Challenging targets are set for each subject they are studying to help them • These are based on the past performance of students in the top 25% of schools for progress made between KS2 and KS4

  3. ‘Chances’ Stickers • NAME • My % chances of achieving each grade are: • A* 11.8% • A 22.4% • B 28.8% • C 28.2% • D 7.3% • E 1.2% • My minimum target grade is GRADE B • My aspirational target is a GRADE A • Work hard and you will achieve your target

  5. How does the pastoral team support learning and achievement? • Attendance • Programme of study for form time • Communication with parents/carers

  6. Attendance • Last year the average attendance for all years was 92.8%. • So far this year Y9 has 97.5% attendance. • 62% of pupils still have 100% attendance.

  7. AttendanceAttendance has a dramatic impact on achievement;

  8. At Goffs; All of the top 20 GCSE students had 94% or higherattendance.

  9. Attendance • 75% • A student with 75% attendance will miss 50 school days per year. • That is 250 days or just over one year over the course of their school career!

  10. Attendance • 90% = pretty good right? • A student with 90% attendance will miss 20 school days per year. • That is 100 days or approximately 5 months over the course of their school career!

  11. The bottom line; • 93% and above attendance gives students a 73% greater chance of achieving 5+A*-C grades at GCSE. • Below 93% gives students only a 27% chance of achieving 5+A*-C

  13. During form time • Form time is the 6th lesson of the day. • Main purpose; • develop literacy/opportunity for silent reading • develop skills that will support students in other subjects and also out of school

  15. Form time Scheme of learning • Developing skills; • Working as a group • Making presentations and public speaking (in form time and assembly)

  16. Form time Scheme of learning • One topic per half-term. • This half-term is Anti-Bullying. • Other topics this year will include; • Community impact • Careers and target setting for the future • Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco • Health and Wellbeing • Sex and Relationships education

Home communication - Tracking • Will we track the progress of your son/daughter rigorously against their targets • Tracking points will occur five times a year • Each tracking point will be reported to parents • Half-termly reports will be issued in November, January, March, May and June. • A report will also be issued at the end of the year with exam results

  21. How do I get an SLG account? • Visit the school website for help and advice • You will need to sign the code of conduct agreement • This can be found on the school website or via reception • It can be emailed to sfl@goffs.herts.sch.uk • You will receive your logon details via email

Leadership Academy – for students • Six leadership groups for students to lead and be a part of: • Charitable events/activities • Delivering assemblies • Working with students to improve learning (including most able) • Extra curricular clubs/activities • Student newsletter • Community/cohesion

  26. How do students apply? • Posters around the school • Application form from Miss Long or student support • You can apply for one cluster group but may have a reserve group • All cluster groups have a ‘Lead Learner’

  27. Bronze, Silver, Gold awards • Every student taking part in the Leadership Academy will be awarded a bronze, silver or gold award for their leadership skills. • Great experience!
