  1. PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS FOR AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY STCU-NATO Workshop “From Science to Business”11-12 October 2006, Kyiv Dr. Serhiy Ponomarenko Tel.: +(38044) 5596617E-mail: sponom@ukr.net Interdepartmental Science & Technology Center “AGROBIOTECH” NAS and MES of Ukraine, Kyiv

  2. TALK OUTLINE 1. What is needed in the market? 2. Brief technology description. 3. Stage of development. 4. Who needs it & how many will they need? 5. What is my unique technology advantage? 6. Competitive matrix. 7. How will I beat the competition? 8. Opportunity for joint work.

  3. PROPRIETARY INFORMATION STATEMENT • The technology material presented in this talk is available for licensing or joint product development. • None of the slides contains any confidential or proprietary information.

  4. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION & MARKET NEED 1. INSTABILITY • Depending on weather conditions productivity of grain crops in the world varies on years on 25 % and more, and world reserves of a grain - 60 %; • Stability of plants to abiotic(soil, climate, weather) and biotic(biological components of agrarian ecological system) stresses of an environment - the most infrequent category in flora; • Increase of stability of agricultural crops to ecological stresses is included since 1977 in the list of the major problems of the National Academy of the USA.

  5. BALANCE OF RESOURCES AND USE OF WHEAT IN THE USA * - hard redwinter ** - summer *** - soft redwinter Average productivity in 2006 - 25,4 cwt/ha

  6. 2. INEFFICIENCY The cost price of production in Ukraine and Russiais some times higher, than in the World. Power intensity of gross domestic product in the world, kg (conventional product) / US $

  7. INEFFICIENCY • The world has changed cardinally, cost of energy rises, change of technologies No-Till. • Entry into WTO and competitiveness. • Ukraine and Russia have natural resources which are of interest of the global capital. According to information of the United Nations they are estimated in 30,0 trillion US $. • Natural resources of the USA - 8 trln. $ • China - 6,5 trln. $ • Europe - 0,5 trln. $

  8. 3. PROSPECTS • Transient world reserves of wheat next marketing year will be descend to the lowest level and will amount 119 million tons; • Forecast of the International Grain Council (IGC): world wheat production in 2006-2007 will amount 594 million tons; • Use of the Ukrainian plant growth regulators on 10 % of world fields of a winter wheat (22,4 million ha) would allow to receive in addition 11 million tons of a grain at the cost of 1320 million $. • Today in Ukraine use of growth regulators amount 1 million ha.

  9. WORLD PRODUCTION * - average productivity 28 cwt/ha ** - average productivity36,7 cwt/ha *** - average productivity25,4cwt/ha In Ukraine, Russia, China, Germany technologies of application of Ukrainian plant growth regulators are checked up during not less 5 years. Additional crop from 1 ha- 10-18 %

  11. BRIEF TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION Synthetic plant growth regulators - analogs of phytohormones - used for seed treatment and crops sprinkling of vegetables, flowers and technical cultures.

  12. BRIEF TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION COMPOSITION PLANTS GROWTH REGULATORS for cereals, leguminousand perennial herbs Agrostimulin Biosil Biomax Betastimulin for sugar beet Zeastimulin for corn Radostim for seed treatment Treptolem for sunflower, rape for root system development Charcor

  13. STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT • Complex research of the mechanism of physiological action and of physical, chemical and toxicological properties was conducted. • The technologies of production and application of PGRs in agriculture and forestry were developed. • The new PGRs were registered in Ukraine (12 items), Republic of Belarus (6), Russia (1), Kazakhstan (4) and Germany. • The pilot production of new PGRs was created.

  14. ADVANTAGES • PGRs are characterized by high efficiency, low doses of using (10-20 ml per 1 ton of seed or 1 hectare of sowing) and ecological safety (1 m2 of sowing gets 1·10-9 g of active substance). • The technologies of their application coincide with existing agromethods. • The harvest of the basic agricultures is increased on 15-20 % and the quality of plant products is improved.

  15. ADVANTAGES • Joint treatment of seed with PGRs and pesticides allows to reduce the doses of sowing pesticides on 20-30 % without lowering of the protective effect. • New PGRs decrease the contents of radionuclides, ions of heavy metals and nitrates in agricultural products. • Our PGRs have antimutagenic effect. • The cost of dose per 1 hectare is $ 2.5-5.0. Putting $ 1 in technology is repaid by $ 20-25 of additional agricultural products.

  16. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS PGRs used for pre-sowing treatment of seeds in doses 10-20 ml per 1 ton and for sprinkling of crops in doses 10-20 ml per 1 hectare Their application costs 2.5-5 $ US per 1 hectare. Application of growth regulators makes possible to improve quality of agricultures and to get additional harvest (tons/ha): wheat grain, barley, rice ……….0.7 sugar ……….0.9 green mass of corn …4.5 - 7.0 grain of corn ……….0.9 potatoes ……….3.5 sunflower ……….0.4 vegetables …4.0 - 6.0 grape …2.0 - 3.0

  17. WHY IT BECAME POSSIBLE? We have taken knowledge from the Nature and have created ecologically safe plant growth regulators. And now we want to help the Nature with our technologies. Dependence DOSE - EFFICACY help us to create composition formulation for different plants and technologies

  18. AGROSTIMULIN IN GERMANY.WINTER WHEAT SEED TREATMENT, 2004 Sampling by the agronomist Calculation of sprouts Determination of photosynthesis Seed processing by Agrostimulin has allowed to receive in 2002 extra 16.7 % (11.1 cwt/ha) of a qualitative wheat grain 20 ml per 1 ton of seeds Control

  19. COMPOSITIONPLANTGROWTH REGULATORS Agrostimulin in China and Russia, 2003-2005 Additional harvest of rice after crop processing (10 ml/ha) was 12,7 %

  20. COMPOSITIONPLANTGROWTH REGULATORS Betastimuline in Germany, Ukraine 2003-2005 The additional cropof sugar beet……...…+12.4 %, sugar content………. +1.2 %, total addition of sugar………………+16.3 %

  21. COMPOSITIONPLANTGROWTH REGULATORS Zeastimulin in Germany and Ukraine, 2003-2005 The additional harvest of corn green mass after crop processing (10 ml/ha) was 19.7 % (74 cwt/ha)
