  1. Method of Salah Module 1 – Circle 13b

  2. Where can we pray Salah? Narrated Abu Sa’eed Al-Kudri: The Prophet pbuh said, “The whole earth is a masjid (to pray on) except a graveyard and a toilet.” [At-Tirmidhi] Module 1 – Circle 13b

  3. Which way do we face when we pray Salah? "Wherever you go, you shall turn your face (during Salat) towards the Sacred Masjid; wherever you might be, you shall turn your faces (during Salat) towards it." [Surah 2:150] Module 1 – Circle 13b

  4. Do we need to make the intention to pray Salah? Before we carry out any act of worship, it is important to correct our intention You’re praying for the sake of Allah swt alone, the number of Rakahs you intend to pray, the Salah you’re praying, if you’re intending on being led by an Imaam and that you’re facing the House of Allah swt. Module 1 – Circle 13b

  5. Where should we look whilst we’re praying Salah? The Prophet pbuh used to incline his head during prayer and fix his sight towards the ground [Baihaqi and Haakim] Aisha (ra) narrated that: ‘I asked Allah's Messenger pbuh about looking here and there in As-Salah (the prayer).  He replied, "It is a way of stealing by which Satan takes away (a portion) from the Salah (prayer) of a person."’  [Bukhari 1.718] Module 1 – Circle 13b

  6. What is Fard in Salah? • Qiyam (Standing) in every Rakkah. • Qirat (Quranic Recitation) - in two Rakkahs of Fard, and all Rakkahs of Sunnah, Wajib, and Nafl • Ruku in every Rakkah. • Two Sajdahs in every Rakah. • Qa'adah Akhirah (Last Sitting) • Salaam (To end the salat). Module 1 – Circle 13b

  7. What is Wajib (necessary) in Salah? • Takbir at-Tahrima • Reciting Surah Al-Fātiha • Reciting at least 3 verses of the Quran after it • Doing the fard acts in their specific places (e.g. doing ruku before doing sajdah) • Doing Qawmah; standing up after ruku • The nose in Sajdah • Doing Jalsah; sitting between the two sajdahs • I’tidal; being still • Sitting down after two rakkahs for the duration that one can read tashahhud • Reciting tashahhud in both sitting postures (applies to salah with 3 or 4 rakkahs) • Ending the Salah with Salaam • Reciting Du'a Qunoot in witr salah • The Imaam’s loud / silent recitation • Additional Takbirs of the Eid Prayers Module 1 – Circle 13b

  8. What are the Sunnahs of Salah? 1. Raising the hands in Takbir 2. Right hand over left in Qiyam 3. Thana 4. Ta’awwudh and Bismillah 5. Saying Amin 6. Making the Takbirs 7. Reciting the Tasbihs 8. Performing the Ruku correctly 9. Reciting in Qaumah 10. Performing Sajdah correctly 11. Jalsa between Sajdahs 12. Sitting correctly 13. Recitation in the final Rakkahs of fard the Salah 14. Salawat and dua in the final sitting 15. Saying the full Salaam Module 1 – Circle 13b

  9. What happens if you make a mistake in Salah? “If a mistake has been made in a Wajib act, in the last Rakaah the person should recite the at-tahiyyaat only and thereafter make salaam towards the right only and thereafter make two Sajdahs (Sajdah Sahu). He should then repeat the at-tahiyyaat and thereafter recite the durood, dua, make salaam to both sides and thereby complete his prayer“ Module 1 – Circle 13b

  10. What breaks the Salah? • Speaking intentionally or unintentionally. This includes giving salaam to someone, or replying to someone who sneezes by saying 'Yarhamukallah' • Laughing out loud • Eating or drinking. The exception is that if someone had a food particle stuck between their teeth and they swallowed it • Excessive movement • Crying or moaning in pain (due to worldly reasons) • Breaking the Wudu Module 1 – Circle 13b

  11. Is your Salah broken if somebody walks past you? It is related that the Prophet (pbuh) said ‘If the one passing in front of the one praying knew what was against him, his waiting forty would be better for him than passing in front of him’ [Bukhari] Abu al-Nadr, one of the sub narrators, said ‘I don’t know whether he said forty days, or months or years’. Module 1 – Circle 13b

  12. Can you pray in your own row when praying in Jamah? The Messenger of Allah pbuh was asked about a man who prays by himself behind the rows and he said: "He is to repeat his salah." [Ahmad & At-Tirmidhi] Module 1 – Circle 13b

  13. What happens if there is nobody to pray next to in Jamah? If there is no space available then, if he can, he should pull someone from the row in front backwards so that they can stand adjacent to each other. Module 1 – Circle 13b

  14. What happens if the row infront of you has a gap in it, and you’ve already started praying? Jabir ibn Samrah said: "The Prophet pbuh came to us and said: 'Why don't you make the rows like the angels make their rows in the presence of their Lord?' We asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, how do the angels make their rows in the presence of their Lord?' He replied: 'They complete the first row and stand closely together, side by side, in the row.'" [Bukhari & Tirmidhi] Module 1 – Circle 13b

  15. What happens if you join the Jamah late? Remember that a Rakkah ends when the Imaam rises from Rukkuh. When you enter the Salah late, Make the Takbir, and stand for a moment before entering the Rukkuh and joining the Imaam (if the Imaam is in Rukkuh). You must make up the Rakkahs you have missed AFTER the Imaam has said BOTH salaams. Begin the first Rakkah you’re making up with the Thana. Module 1 – Circle 13b

  16. Which prayers have loud recitation when praying in Jammah? Prayers which occur in daylight hours (Zuhr and Asr) are silent prayers (EXCEPT the Jummah Prayer and the Eid Prayer) when prayed in Jammah. Prayers which occur when it is dark have loud recitation when being prayed in Jammah. Module 1 – Circle 13b

  17. What happens if the Imaam makes a mistake in the Salah procedure? A member of the congregation will usually say ‘Subhanallah’ to alert the Imaam that he has made a mistake. The Imaam will correct the mistake (usually with Sajdah Sahu). Module 1 – Circle 13b
