  2. SkillPROOF Methodology Data Source SkillPROOF surveys the inventories of job openings at large, regional and nationwide direct employers. A direct employer (or principal employer) is a company which will employ the employee directly to work for it. Job openings at these employers are not published on behalf of a third party. All employers surveyed by SkillPROOF have job databases with complete listings of the employers’ current job openings. All job openings are counted and verified every 24 hours. All data sources have been verified for timely removal of filled or closed positions. SkillPROOF does not survey job boards since research has found that employers often advertise only a fraction of their job openings there due to the cost of advertising. Also, the same job opening may be posted on several different job boards. SkillPROOF does not survey sites operated or owned by search or staffing firms. Data Sample SkillPROOF currently tracks about 50,000 IT job openings from which a sample is generated. The sample is the base for SkillPROOF’s statistics. Job Opening Counts For this report SkillPROOF estimates the counts of job openings. Estimates are calculated directly from SkillPROOF’s actual daily counts of job openings and data/findings from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) which are available at http://www.bls.gov.

  4. IT Job Market Remarks The IT Job Market will be growing slower this year than the past three years. A significant reason for this development is the development in the real estate market and the mortgage crunch. Construction is a very important part of the economy and a slowdown here has a negative affect rippling through many industries. Universities and students should look beyond this year and recognize the long-term trends in the number of job openings locally and national. The strong growth trend in IT will continue due to the continued proliferation of IT solutions in our daily lives. Most significant growth areas are open source software development, SOA and Large Systems Technologies like Virtualization. The demand for these technologies continues to grow at a very high speed.

  5. IT Job Market Nationwide The number of job openings for IT professionals nationwide has increased by 45.2% from 2004 to 2007. In 2007, the number of open IT positions has grown 2.0% compared to 2006.
