  1. Jesus Christ in the Old Testament Old Testament people who foreshadowed Jesus Christ through the Actions and Events of their lives

  2. Introduction • When God decided to destroy the world with a flood as a punishment for humanity’s sin, God had mercy on a man, Noah. • In grace and love, God chose Noah and his family to save them from the flood.

  3. Introduction • God had Noah build a huge ark, where he and his family and all the animals could be safe. • Noah trusted God and built the ark amongst the redicule of neighbors. In that way, Noah becomes a type of Jesus Christ.

  4. Noah was like the “second Adam” since all of humanity came from him. Christ is called the “second Adam” since eternal life comes only from Him. Noah----------Christ Genesis 9:1Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 1 Corinthians 15:4545 So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

  5. Noah’s ark provided a refuge to all of God’s creation from the punishing flood waters. Christ’s Body provides a refuge for all from eternal punishment. Noah----------Christ Galatians 3:28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Genesis 6:19You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.

  6. Noah preached righteousness while he built the ark. Jesus Christ preached the Kingdom of God. Noah----------Christ 2 Peter 2:5[God] did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others. Matthew 4:17From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

  7. Noah and his family, eight in all, were saved by water. Christ saves all by water and His blood which He shed on the cross. Noah----------Christ 1 Peter 3:20-21God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also... John 3:5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

  8. With sin and evil rampant, God deceided to undo His creation with the flood. When the time was right, God decided to send the Savior, Jesus Christ to re-do His creation. Noah----------Christ Genesis 6:5-7The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become.. [and] was grieved that he had made man on the earth...7 So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth... Galatians 4:4-5But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.

  9. Noah and his family had escaped the water which would have destroyed them. In Christ, water becomes living water, giving and sustaining life. Noah----------Christ John 7:38 “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." Genesis 7:7And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.

  10. The ark provided shelter to Noah and his family and they were delivered from the flood waters. Christ’s body was delivered from death and becomes ours in the waters of Baptism. Noah----------Christ 1 Peter 3:21This water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also... It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:22But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight... Genesis 8:15-17 God said to Noah, 16 "Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. 17 Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you...so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number upon it."

  11. Noah offered a sacrifice of blood in thanksgiving for being rescued. Christ offered Himself as our blood sacrifice. Noah----------Christ 1 Peter 1:18-19For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed .... but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. Genesis 8:20Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.

  12. The Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat on the Jewish month of Nisan, the 17th day. We know that Christ died on the cross on Nisan 16. He rested in the tomb on the 17th day of Nisan. Noah----------Christ John 19:31Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath Day…[Nisan 17]. Genesis 8:4On the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

  13. God made a covenant with Noah never to again to send a flood to punish sin. The sign of that covenant was the rainbow. In Christ, God has made a NEW covenant never to punish people for their sins. The signs of that covenant are bread and wine. Noah----------Christ Genesis 9:8-13 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood...and God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you...I have set my rainbow ...and it will be the sign of the covenant... Matthew 26:28This is my blood of the [new] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

  14. While not perfect, Noah was a righteous man...and he walked with God. Jesus Christ was the perfect and blameless man and was God. Noah----------Christ Hebrews 4:15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Genesis 6:9 Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
