Transforming Language Learning: Engaging Students through Meaningful Contexts

In addressing the challenges of language learning, Xavier Martin-Rubio emphasizes the importance of engaging students with real and relevant materials. He highlights the adverse socio-political contexts that hinder English fluency and negatively impact students' motivation, self-esteem, and anxiety levels. By advocating for a shift in teaching methodologies—focusing on participation in social practices and using innovative materials—teachers can foster a more meaningful use of the target language. This approach pivots from strict grammar rules to contextual learning, aiming to create an inclusive and dynamic classroom environment.
