  4. californiacolleges.edu Why is college important? College is important because it’s our future, It opens up doors. Attending college basically let’s our children choose their own lifestyle!. What can I do now to help my child prepare for high school or college? I can stay connected with my child and his/her teachers to motivate him/her even during hard times, go thru homework assignments together to make sure my child is on track. I can keep track of my child GPA, so I can know what exam he/she needs, depending if GPA is under 3.0 he/she would need ACT or SAT. We should also keep in mind the five different kinds of colleges in California 1) California Community Colleges (CCC) 2) California State University (CSU) 3) University of California (UC) 4) Independent California Colleges and Universities. 5) Specialized Schools and Colleges.

  5. A place of our own Even long before we can remember, we ourselves had a place of our own!. We most likely asked a lot of questions to our parents, maybe even the same questions our children ask us today. I believe it’s very important to help our children understand all their questions by letting them explore in doors, outdoors, parks with friends , with family and specially with mommy and daddy. It gives us the opportunity to introduce our children to many good things such as good programs, great books and how to socialize with others. We have to take the opportunity to be the greatest role model our children. Read to them and have them read to you. Set the example, If they see you read, they will in fact be curious and want to do the same. Teaching them today is what they need to know tomorrow! For their future education.

  6. Facebook Facebook is one of the biggest social networking sites. It allows you to easily put your interests, hobbies, photos and upcoming gatherings and events. It’s also great because it allows you to find just about anybody you know, even your elementary friends!. The greatest thing is that even if you don’t remember all their names, as long as you know somebody, that somebody remembers someone else and before you know it your social network expands very quickly. It’s a great way to socialize with old friends, even across state. Even now that we are very busy with our personal life, work and children.

  7. the Beehive The beehive is an awesome website that shows you a lot of good information on how to keep track of your children’s on line activity. It showed me how dangerous it could be for children to share personal information and can be tracked down by pedophiles. They can also be cyber bullied by other people and cause them depression, fear and even suicide. We also have to be very careful about drugs on line because it’s easy for them to access and purchase them on line with our credit card numbers stored on our computer.

  8. Duarte Unified School District During High school there are certain requirements for graduation. There is a certain amount of courses, including a total of 220 credits during 9-12 grade. For example English is a total of 4 years and completion of 40 credits, and so forth . Now when it comes to college the requirements would be different. For example, UC would require English 4 yrs. And 40 credits, and something different added would be a foreign language, 2 yrs. And a total of 20 credits. A total of 150 credits. UC has created a doorways site that provides complete information about high school courses approved for university admission, Give yourself time to review requirements and your options.

  9. PARENTS. THE ANTI DRUG I believe that for our children to have a successful life at home and specially at school, is communication at home with us parents. We have to earn their trust and be a friend to them. Remember the best way to know what drugs are around our children is to be involved with them and in school activities and school gatherings. There are many drugs out there in school and even around the household. I have learned that the last thing you could think of at home could be used as a drug. Many inhalants could be very dangerous for anyone, It can even cause death. So being involved and letting your kids know that you know WHO, WHAT WHEN and WHERE their at, will have them think twice before falling for the PEER PRESURE. Remember get your kids involved in school activities and sports, have dinner together and talk about their day. Earn their trust and give them your trust, It will make a difference in their life's and their future.

  10. County of Los Angeles Public Library In a recent website that was introduce to me called County of Los Angeles Public Library, I found out an awesome resource. They offer on line free tutoring for practically all ages, k-12, college and even adult learners. The on line tutoring is available everyday from 3-10 pm in English and Spanish. They offer help in Vietnamese everyday from 4-7 pm. It’s amazing the help we can benefit from, math, science, English, social studies, essay reviews and even career help, resume, job searching, GED, and citizenship preparation, and all you need is a library card and internet connection. There is so much great information on how to get your children involved in reading programs since babies all the way to adults. It’s a web site all parents, kids and college students should be aware of.
