4. three ways of methods to improve my reading ability ★ words with several meanings Usually there is not only a meaning for each word. Actually, a single word may have a variety of meanings, which can be found listed in a big heavy dictionary. But, how could I determine which meaning is chosen? First, to look carefully at the word that is used in a sentence or paragraph. And try to guess the word’s meaning. Second, sometimes I may see a word I’ve already known is in the new word. So, I can use the word inside, called the base word, to help me guess. Third, another way to use word parts as clues is to look at word beginnings or endings. For instance, the part re means again or back. So, reunite means “join together again.” BACK
