  1. Technology and the Future of Pre-K Toni Odom ITEC 7445 Dr. Cameron

  2. Welcome to the 21st Century

  3. What is a SMART Board? • It is a presentation device that interfaces with a computer. The computer images are displayed on the interactive board by a digital projector, where they can be seen and manipulated. The teacher can control software both from the computer and from the interactive white board.

  4. Teachers & Pre-K Classrooms • A top priority for pre-k teachers is to get these 4 and 5 year old students motivated and engaged in learning. Within their lessons are the skills of numbers, letters, shapes, and colors. These are all essential components of a pre-k classroom. Teachers must inspire a love for learning and attending school. Our students relate to the 21th century technology with excitement.

  5. Benefits of the Interactive SMART Board • Mindtool: ease of use, group interaction, ready availability of software. • Students with limited motor skills. • Works well with other peripherals. • Brainstorming and taking notes • Innovative technology promotes interaction

  14. SMART Boards for the 21st Century • Investing in our Students means investing in SMART technology today. Our young students will build skills for a more successful tomorrow. Thomas County Schools are building students that think critically by incorporating 21st Century Technology to prepare them for the future.

  15. Implementation into the Classroom • Initial SMART Board training • Pre-K teacher training • Monthly Better Seeking Team updates • Individual training as needed • Parent demonstrations

  16. Reflection • After researching the SMART Board for pre-k classrooms, I realize how valuable they are to the teachers and students. Last year we received SMART Boards in grades K-12, but due to budget cuts, pre-k did not receive SMART Boards. There are many benefits for using interactive white boards in the classroom. Having the internet at your fingertips is engaging for a teacher and the students. When you do not have answers, just research it in front of your students. Modeling these skills with the students not only shows authenticity, but teaching is done by doing. This kind of teaching is preparing students for lifelong learning.
