  1. Galore!!!!  Given a Bunch of Random Information About a Line Created by Matt Cohen

  2. m is slope • b is y-intercept Slope y-intercept

  3. Identify the Slope and y-intercept m = -1, b = 2 m = 0, b = 2 m = 4, b = 0 m = 1, b = -7 m = 2/3, b = -1/5 m = -2, b = 3

  4. Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Formy = mx + b • Write the equation of the line that has a slope of –3 and y-intercept 4.

  5. You Try a Couple! • Write the equation of the line that has a slope of 1 and y-intercept –2. • Write the equation of the line that has a slope of 0 and y-intercept 11.

  6. Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Formy = mx + b • that has a slope of 2 and passes through the point (3, 1).

  7. You Try a Couple! • Write the equation of the line that has a slope of -1 and passes through (4, 3). • Write the equation of the line that has a slope of 0 and passes through (-2, 5).

  8. Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Formy = mx + b • that passes through (-1, 2) and (1, -6). • Find slope using • Take slope and 1 point (x, y) & plug in.

  9. You Try a Couple! • Write the equation of the line that passes through (1,1) and (7, 4). • Write the equation of the line that passes through (-3,4) and (0,-6).

  10. Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Formy = mx + b • that is parallel to y = 3x – 2 and passes through (-6, 0). • Recall: Parallel lines have the “same” slope with different y-intercepts.

  11. You Try a Couple! • Write the equation of the line that is parallel to y = x + 4 passes through (1,-2). • Write the equation of the line that is parallel to y = -2x – 1 passes through (3,1).

  12. Writing Equations in Slope-Intercept Formy = mx + b • that is perpendicular to y = 3x – 2 and passes through (-6, 0). • Recall: Perpendicular lines have “opposite-reciprocal” slopes.

  13. You Try a Couple! • Write the equation of the line that is perpendicular to y = x + 4 passes through (1,-2). • Write the equation of the line that is perpendicular to y = -2x – 1 passes through (3,1).
