This project develops a Virtual Interactive Construction Education (VICE) module focused on a single span bridge project at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It aims to create and implement assessment methodologies to evaluate the module's effectiveness on student learning outcomes in construction engineering and management. Our methodology includes formative and summative assessments, utilizing self-reported learning gains. The project's results, materials, and best practices will be disseminated to enhance educational practices in the field.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES Develop VICE module for a single span bridge project Develop and implement an assessment methodology and tools to determine the effectiveness of the VICE bridge module on student learning. Disseminate materials, practices and results of this project
Methodology • Formative • Qualitative measurement • Summative • Retrospective Post-then-Pre Questions adapted from Student Assessment of Learning Gains (SALG)
Self Reported Learning gains • Did you realize before doing the simulation that a temporary bridge would be in order? • What elements of the simulation helped you learn best? • Did you use the “Ask a Consultant?” What did you learn from this resource? • Rate your ability to manage a single span bridge project… • After the simulation: 1 2 3 4 5 • Before the simulation: 1 2 3 4 5
Initial Results • Sept 2011, Advisory Committee provided useful feedback • Pilot assessment early April • Review results with Advisory Committee in early May
