  2. Nena was born in Hagen, North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany.

  3. Nena: the Beginning • Nena Gabriele Susanne Kerner was born on March 24, 1960 in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

  4. FAME • Her musical career began in 1977 when guitarist Rainer Kitzmann offered her a position as the lead singer in his band, The Stripes.

  5. The Band • In 1981 Nena and her boyfriend Rolf Brendel moved to West-Berlin, where they met future "Nena" band members, guitarist Carlo Karges, keyboard player, Uwe Fahrenkrog-Peterse and bass player Jürgen Dehmel. In 1982 the band, "Nena", released their first single, "Nur geträumt"

  6. While the charismatic singer's success in America was short-lived, her band's iconic music video was a memorable fixture on MTV in 1984.

  7. Since 1989, Nena has consistently continued working as a solo artist, releasing albums of songs composed mainly by herself and befriended musicians she chooses as co-authors. She has chosen not to have a permanent band, neither in the studio nor on tour.
