  7. Flow Map: Find and read an article your weekly topic. Sequence six major plot events for the article. • Loggerhead sea turtles pick up the magnetic field of the lines of longitude which helps them find their way either east or west • Loggerhead sea turtles rely on the angle of the lines of longitude and the strength of the magnetic field • Loggerhead sea turtles must make their way from the beach into the ocean to begin migrating from Florida to the ocean and back • Researchers used baby loggerhead sea turtles to replicate the migration patterns • The Earth’s magnetic fields are strongest closer to the equator. • This research can be used to better protect the environments of sea animals as well as improve navigation http://esciencenews.com/articles/2011/02/24/migrating.sea.turtles.have.magnetic.sense.longitude

  8. Lines of longitude designate time zones The US has four time zones • Multi Flow Map: put an event in the center box from the article from above. Then, list things that may have caused the event on the left side, and effects of the event on the right side. The number of causes does not have to be equal to the number of effects. Time Zones Lines of longitude also effect daylight savings time A time zone is measured for every 15˚ along each meridian Time Zones http://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/Freebies/Library/books/AK/8-2.htm
