  3. “A problem? ” • “Aquestionproposedforsolution”Webster's 1913 Dictionary (2 ) • Another definition is “ a state of difficulty that needs to be resolved”(3 ) • Tell yourself what the problem is. ( 4 ) • Believe in that “problems can be solved”( 4 )

  4. Remember • Describe the problem clearly because every step you will take depends on your accurate description of the problem. • Describe with “I feel” not “It makes me feel”( 4 ) • Look at the problem from different dimensions and views noh ss!w l

  5. * Tell someone of your problem, then ask him/her to describe it for you ( 4 )

  7. Your Goal • What’s your goal? What’s your main priority? (4 ) • Which idea meets my goal best? • Be positive! • Don’t get overwhelmed by thinking of negative consequences. (4 )

  8. Possible SolutionsBrain- storm! • Create a great number of ideas in the shortest possible time. • - Acceptance of every idea uncritically. • - Aim for quantity not quality. • - At this stage do not initiate any discussion • - List the ideas. • - Set a time limit. ( 5 )

  9. What are the consequences of each solution? • What’s your best solution? • Choose it. ( 5 )

  10. Remember • For each solution, think of all the things that might happen next. • Bad event has a strong emotion than the happy event. ( 6 )

  11. Remember • Distinguish fact from opinion. ( 6 ) • Examine the possible reasons to obtain the reason that interprets the facts ( if you found so many reasons it means your description was not precise). • Don't make a decision immediately except in the critical time (no ample time to study the problem thoughtfully.)

  12. And Remember • (some people focus on the beginning of the problem , some focus on the end of the problem and some others focus on the middle of the problem) • To start solving the problem is more important than where in the problem you might start

  13. Plan • Plan and make a final check. • What could go wrong or block your plan? (7 ) three houses three utilities

  14. Try it and re-think it • What did you learn that might help you next time? • Anticipate the obstacles. ( 8 )

  17. ADVS vs. DISADVS The pros and cons of each choice? • Balance between the advantages and disadvantages of decisions and choose one that has more advantages.

  18. Remember • There are many possible solutions and one of them is the best. • There is no 100% good solution or 100% bad solution.

  19. Applying Problem-Solving Skills • What is the problem? • How does she feel? • What is her goal/s? • What are possible solutions? • What is the pros and cons of each solution • What is the best solution?
