Stay safe on campus with these vital tips for drivers and pedestrians. For drivers, ensure proper parking: choose well-lit areas away from large vehicles, always lock your car, and never leave spare keys hidden in or on your vehicle. Drive cautiously, obey traffic signs, watch for pedestrians, and always wear a seatbelt. As a pedestrian, utilize crosswalks and give way to cars when necessary. Familiarize yourself with campus traffic laws to enhance safety for everyone on campus.

Cars on Campus Being a safe driver and a safe pedestrian
Parking on Campus: Safety Tips • Park near other vehicles and near/under lights • Avoid parking near vans, pick-ups, and other large vehicles • they hide your car and make it harder for people to see if it is getting broken into • could provide a great hiding place for a thief or an attacker • ALWAYS lock your vehicles and close your windows • don’t hide spare keys in/on your car → they can be found • Never leave an ID tag on your keyring • if you lose your keys, that tag allows someone to find your house, your car, and you - and they have your keys
While you drive on campus... • Watch for pedestrians and bicyclists! • Do not cut through empty spaces and lanes • Obey all traffic signs • Be suspicious of anyone approaching your vehicle • Drive slowly and use your turn signal • ALWAYS wear a seatbelt
Watch out for Pedestrians! • Remember, speed limits vary all around campus! • check for the posted speed limit as your drive • be mindful of road conditions (ice, snow, etc) and adjust accordingly • Drivers must yield to pedestrians when they enter or are in a marked crosswalk • when a crosswalk covers two lanes of traffic, drivers must wait until pedestrians have cleared the entire crosswalk before proceeding
Being a Pedestrian As a pedestrian, you should use crosswalks whenever available. When crossing at any place other than a marked crosswalk, pedestrians must give right-of-way to the driver.
