  3. About Makpower Makpower Trans Systems (P) Ltd. is a prominent manufacturer specializing in a wide range of transformers, including Submerged Arc Melting Furnace Transformers, Dry type Transformers, and Energy Efficient Power and Distribution Transformers. They also produce HT Automatic Step Voltage Regulators, Special Type Transformers, MCC-PCC-PDB, various LT Control Panels, and accessories. Operating under professional management, the company prides itself on its state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing facilities. Their Transformer Factory is strategically located on the Durgapur Expressway in Singur, Hooghly, while the Panel Board factory is situated within the industrial complex of Howrah District, West Bengal, India.

  4. MANUFACTURING PROCESS INTRODUCTION Makpower transformers adhere to the fundamental principles of electromagnetic induction, as outlined by Faraday's Law. They consist of laminated iron cores, around which multiple sets of windings are wound. One set, known as the primary winding, receives the applied voltage, generating a magnetic flux through the iron core. This flux induces a counter electromotive force (e.m.f.) in the secondary winding, facilitating the transfer of power from one circuit to another while altering voltage levels without changing frequency. These transformers undergo rigorous design and testing processes in accordance with national and international standards, including IS : 2026, IS : 1180, IEC 76, BSI 171, ASA C57, and other relevant IS and IE regulations.

  5. WINDINGS Makpower transformers utilize electrolytic grade high conductivity Copper or Aluminium, insulated with materials like paper, Nomex, or glass, tailored to specific applications and technical requirements. To enhance short-circuit ability during fault conditions, wound coils undergo processes such as passing, clamping, and oven drying before impregnation in oil. The design includes cooling ducts formed with rigid, high-density spacers, and both horizontal and vertical ducts are incorporated to mitigate hot spots and ensure efficient cooling.

  6. Core Construction Makpower designs transformer cores with an optimized flux density to minimize core loss and cost. They employ butt-lap, miter, or step-lap-miter construction based on application and core-loss requirements. Laminations, ranging from 0.23mm to 0.30mm thickness, are burr-free and closely controlled in length variation for reduced sound levels and excitation currents. Each lamination is coated with a high-resistance, inorganic material to mitigate eddy currents. Handling minimizes bending to preserve low-loss properties, and the core is clamped in a rigid frame with uniform pressure to maintain performance integrity.

  7. Core & Coil Assembly Makpower employs high electrical grade Kraft Paper and Press Board, adhering to IS: 1576 standards, ensuring optimal insulation. Insulating papers undergo rigorous testing for high dielectric strength, aging resistance, and moisture protection. Permali wood enhances mechanical strength in transformer construction. For general transformers, off-circuit tap switches are utilized, while special transformers and furnace applications incorporate externally operated ON LOAD TAP CHANGER from CTR/OLG. Submerged Arc Melting Furnace Transformers feature EASUN-MR make, INTANK type OLTC, tailored to customer specifications.

  8. Tank Makpower constructs transformer tanks using high-grade tested mild steel, ensuring adequate thickness to withstand pressure build-up. Welding adheres to strict standards, employing jigs and fixtures for dimension accuracy, with double welds for oil-tightness, rigorously tested to prevent leaks. Neoprene bonded cork sheets serve as flat gaskets for joints and auxiliary fitments. For ONAN cooling, pressed sheet steel radiators with greater surface area for high dissipation are independently pressure tested and mounted on the tank. ONAF cooling utilizes vertically mounted fans near radiators for optimal performance. OFWF cooling involves heat exchangers, oil pumps, flow meters, and pressure gauges to manage losses at 150% loading. Tank integrity is ensured through leak testing, where each tank is filled with oil and subjected to pressure of 0.5 KG/Cm² or higher for several hours to detect even minute leaks.

  9. Painting/Finishing Makpower ensures thorough cleaning of fabricated steel transformer tanks, both internally and externally, using sandblasting or shot blasting to remove scales and rust. To prevent corrosion, a coat of Zinc chromate primer paint with rust inhibitive properties and excellent chemical resistance is applied to all external surfaces immediately. This is followed by the application of two coats of glossy, oil and weather resisting paint in dark grey shade (No. 632 of ISS), ensuring durability and protection against environmental factors.

  10. OIL Makpower utilizes insulating oil with low viscosity and excellent resistance to oxidation, sludge formation, and acids. The moisture content, dielectric strength, and other relevant parameters are determined and certified through conducting tests as per IS-335/1993 standards. Typically, they use 'transOL' brand EHV grade oil for their transformers, ensuring high-quality insulation and performance.
