  1. The Invisible ManChapter 17

  2. Independent Reading: Turn logs in today for this week and last week • Wednesday’s Learning Target: I can tell the difference between a direct question and a rhetorical question. • Wednesday’s Log: Either copy a rhetorical question from your novel or create a rhetorical question your character might ask another character. Add a sentence that gives context to your question. • Thursday’s Learning Target: I can identify and create parallel structure. • Thursday’s Log: Copy an example of parallel structure from what you read today. If there is no example, create a sentence about what you read that uses parallel structure.

  3. Rhetorical Questions Are . . . questions posed without expectation of an answer but merely as a way of making a point. Examples: "Are you crazy?" "Who cares?" "How should I know?" "Are you kidding me?"

  4. Sample Response for Reading Log When Invisible Man sees Ras the Exhorter pull a knife on Todd Clifton he must have wondered What am I doing here? Rhetorical Question

  5. Parallel Structure A pattern of similar sentence structure used for emphasis. Example: Neither rain, nor snow nor sleet will prevent the postal service from delivering mail.

  6. Announcements/Assignments • Analogies Practice 3 due tomorrow. • Read Chapters 18 – 20 for Monday • Be sure you are keeping up with your motif chart. • Reading Comprehension Remediation due Monday
