Rate: 138.47 “ The won has rallied 2.4 percent in the past month, the most in Asia, on bets Samsung Electronics Co. and Hyundai Motor Co. will be among the biggest beneficiaries as manufacturing activity strengthens abroad. BOK governor and his board kept the benchmark rate unchanged at 2.5 percent” (Bloomberg 2013). “ The five-year contract, the fixed cost needed to receive a floating payment, rose to 3.21 percent from a low 2.52 percent in May, when the central bank lowered its seven-day repurchase rate by 25 basis points to 2.5 percent” (Bloomberg 2013). According to the Korea Economic Daily (08 Apr 2013), KRW depreciates 1.83%, due to its geopolitical tension s over a potential military conflict with North Korea, and sharp JPY depreciation on aggressive Bank of Japan monetary easing.
