34. Review of L&P governance • Review Group is Jim Feast & Elliot Finer, supported by Tony Ashmore • Group has invited submissions from Boards and Committees, and all members via RSC News. Group is meeting with Chairs of committees. All views are welcome • Aim is to produce a draft report for consideration in Q2 2006 • If feasible changes to occur at 2006 AGM

Investing in our staff and supporting our volunteers • Recognise demands of the modern workplace on member volunteers • Encourage wider industry participation • Provide appropriate training and support for volunteers throughout the RSC • Streamline administration to facilitate member activities • Ensure RSC staff are well trained to anticipate future organisation and member needs

36. The next steps • Council appreciates member feedback and will respond to major themes • Strategic Plan that reflects RSC priorities posted on the Web • Board objectives and staff goals integrated with the Plan • Further opportunities for input through RSC News, Web site and Regional Meetings

37. General Assembly • Feedback from participants indicated that event was a success • A good base to build on for future years • 2006 will be in Glasgow over 17/18 November [Friday/Saturday] • 2007 event will be on weekdays • We would welcome any feedback and views from members

38. New CEO • David Giachardi retired in September 2005 after 5 years in the role • Spencer Stuart were hired to help select his successor • Council set up a sub-group led by the President to oversee the appointment • Richard Pike joined the RSC on 1st February 2006

39. Working in Scotland • Links Day in Edinburgh is now firmly established in the political calendar • Through the Scottish Parliamentary advisor the RSC is making an input to a range of science and educational policy consultations • RSC has good links with Scottish Funding Council • RSC would welcome suggestions for other areas for development

40. Working in Wales • Assembly advisor has now been appointed • First Links day in Cardiff was a great success – led to RSC being asked to give evidence to Assembly committee • We now need to build on first event and establish it as a ‘must go to’ event for the Assembly & its members • RSC would welcome suggestions for other areas for development

41. Working in Ireland • RSC is looking at how it can support the development of the science across Ireland both in N Ireland Assembly, and Houses of the Oireachtas • Our aim is to work in partnership with local members and Institute of Chemistry of Ireland • RSC would welcome views and ideas for developing science and educational initiatives
