Rationale: Why Haiku? “Haiku everything!” ~ Barry Lane • Haiku allows students to reflect, respond, and summarize their experiences in learning and in life. • It combines form, content and language. • Because of its concise nature, Haiku forces students to play with words and pay very close attention to the incredible power of word choice. • “Haiku teaches the power of observation and editing,” • ~Bruce Lansky

  3. Let’s Haiku! Remember, haiku has three lines: Line 1= 5 syllables Line 2= 7 syllables Line 3= 5 syllables

My Year in Haiku • Create a series of Haiku that reflect on, respond to, and summarize the school year you’ve just completed. • You can include both work-related and personal things that have occurred this year. • Remember that the most effective Haiku is the one that captures the essence of a moment or emotion.

This place has been home I’ve learned, laughed, and made good friends GACS is in my heart
