  3. Generalizations of Native American Literature • Cultures use stories to teach moral lessons and convey practical information about the natural world. • World is not dominated by human beings • Animals and humans are often interchangeable • Keen awareness of the power of metaphor

  4. Preserve historical continuity • Tenacious, dynamic, and responsive to change. • Cyclical nature of existence • E.g. changing seasons; birth, death, rebirth
