  2. Hey Everybody My name is Tek. I’m going to be your guide today! I’m a part of i-SAFE. i-SAFE is concerned with teaching you how to be safe online. We want you to recognize and avoid dangerous, destructive or unlawful online behavior. Also, we hope to empower you to communicate what you learn from i-SAFE with others.

  3. The PlanIn this lesson you will be adding to your knowledge on how to safely design a website. You will be evaluating a sample website for safety tips.

  4. All Right – Let’s Get Started Today we’re going to start with a discussion. Let’s see if you can answer these questions! Take time to discuss them as a class.

  5. Question 1 Why do some people build personal websites? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  6. Question 2 How many of you have your own website? What do you include on your site? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  7. Question 3 If you were designing your ideal personal website – what would it include? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  8. Question 4 What are some common components of personal websites? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  9. Question 5 What are potential dangers of having a personal website? Brainstorm some dangers! Discuss as a class.

  10. It’s time to look at your activity sheets. Then let’s continue on

  11. All right – Does everyone have an Activity Sheet? Good! Your task today is to review a website for safety. You will either have a paper copy of Trina’s webpage or you will access it on your computer. What did Trina do wrong with her website? Take a look and then we’ll meet back here.

  13. Question 1 What types of information did Trina’s webpage give away? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  14. Question 2 What were some areas for potential danger on Trina’s webpage? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  15. Question 3 How could Trina’s webpage be made safer? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  16. What about your school website: Does your school site allow for posting of photos of students? What are some ways your school site could be made safer? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

  17. Stop! Time for another activity Your teacher will put you into small groups and give you the activity page. Your group is to brainstorm some rules for designing safe websites.

  18. So Get Started! Do your best on these rules for safe design! When you are finished you will present your rules to the class and discuss. And once you’re finished, check out i-SAFE’s contests! Click on the link to Contests and Incentives at www.isafe.org.
