  1. Review of RF Sources Mike Dykes

  2. Contents • Introduction • CPI • e2v • Thales • Thanks – Tony Johns, CPI; Jan Przbyla & Alan Wheelhouse, e2v: and Eric Margoto, Thales

  3. Introduction • Different power ranges for injector and linac • At ERL05 only considered L-Band sources - now need to consider UHF • Will only look at Klystrons and IOTs - solid state still in the future – ‘low’ power and expensive • Industry now ready to supply amplifiers

  4. CHK51320W • 1300MHz, L Band IOT amplifier system • Maximum output power – 35 kW CW or 80kW peak • Efficiency at maximum power – 64% • Long life, high reliability with dispenser type cathode and pyrolytic graphite grid • Tube replacement does not require disconnection of power supply • Compact size with “collector (water) down” • Water cooled collector and output cavity; air cooled input circuit and electron gun • U.S. Based, world-wide product and applications support

  5. Summary • IOTs available for both UHF injectors and linacs • IOTs being developed and klystrons available for L-Band injectors • IOTs available for L-Band linacs
